JBL Unveils Ruby Red Soundgear Clips Earbuds With Premium Price Tag
JBL has launched a striking new Tourmaline Red Special Edition of its Soundgear Clips wireless earbuds, giving the open-ear headphones a bold new look with a semi-transparent finish inspired by ruby gemstones.
The new colourway follows the Emerald Green Special Edition released in May and marks JBL’s second China-exclusive version of the Soundgear Clips.
Both the earbuds and their charging case feature a translucent red design, with JBL drawing comparisons to the rich colour of a ruby.
The Tourmaline Red Special Edition is priced from 1,346 yuan in China (approximately US$198), a significant premium over the Emerald Green version, which sells for 999 yuan.
Despite the cosmetic changes, the new model retains much of the technology found in the original Soundgear Clips, which made their debut at CES 2026.
The earbuds feature custom-designed 11mm dynamic drivers with titanium-plated, double-layer diaphragms, which JBL says are engineered to deliver clear, detailed sound.
They also incorporate JBL’s SonicArc directional audio technology, designed to channel sound towards the listener’s ears while reducing leakage that could disturb people nearby.
Unlike traditional in-ear headphones, the Soundgear Clips use an open-ear design that allows users to remain aware of their surroundings while listening to music or taking calls.
Each earbud weighs just 6.5g and features a flexible C-shaped bridge made from TPU, connecting the two sections of the clip-on design.
An IP54 rating provides protection against dust and water splashes, making the earbuds suitable for commuting, exercise and everyday listening.

JBL has equipped the Soundgear Clips with four microphones, supported by AI noise reduction and environmental noise cancellation technology to improve voice clarity during calls.
Microphone performance can also be adjusted through a companion app, while JBL claims up to four hours of talk time on a single charge.
For music playback, the earbuds deliver up to eight hours of battery life, with the charging case extending total listening time to 32 hours.
Fast charging is also supported, with a 10-minute charge providing approximately three hours of additional playback. A complete recharge takes around two hours.
Wireless connectivity is provided by Bluetooth 5.4, although JBL does not include a charging cable in the package.
The Soundgear Clips Tourmaline Red Special Edition is currently available only in China, with no confirmation of an international release.
