“The Headphone Jack Is At The Bottom!:” Samsung’s P*** Take Of iPhone 5
The Samsung ad, released yesterday, sets the scene outside Apple Stores which shows zombie Apple believers eagerly queuing up to get a bite of the latest iPhone 5, which goes on sale tommorrow.
The tongue-in-cheek Samsung send-up portrays the new iPhone as yesterday’s news and old technology, with its die hard fans rejoicing over simple tweaks like a slightly bigger screen, relocated headphone jack and redesigned connector.
“The headphone jack is going to be on the bottom..boom,” one queueing Apple fan declares in the line with 8 hours to go before store opening.
“I heard the connector is going to be all digital…what does that even mean?” another asks.
“Who knows” a fellow iPhone fanboy replies.
Samsung also uses the ad to showcases the NFC touch and tap technology on the Galaxy S III, something which the iPhone 5 is sadly lacking and says “the next big thing is already here.”
The world’s No. 1 phone maker pulled a similar stunt last year prior to the launch of iPhone 4S last October.
But it has good reason to be on the defensive prior to the new iPhone launch.
|Apple are said to have sold 2 million of the devices just on pre-sale alone and analysts believe it could sell as many as 8 million units this weekend, analysts in the US believe.
By comparison, Samsung sold 20 million S III’s in around 100 days after its release in May.
There are queues already building outside the Apple Store in Sydney which will open tommow morning at 8am to feed hungry Apple fans as will all the main telcos Telstra, Vodafone and Optus.
