LG’s 4K TV Undercuts Sony’s By 5 Thousand Dollars

Sony and LG are squaring off with the introduction of their new 4K televisions. The playing field is level with each contender spanning 84 inches, using LED backlit LCD panels and employing similar audio and visual technologies, including software that upscales image quality to accommodate their 3,840 by 2,160 resolution.

LG’s 84LM9600 has a dual core processor, is 3D capable (complete with dual-play), is big on device interconnectivity and comes with their magic remote

But whereas LG’s 84LM9600 has a $20,000 US price tag, Sony’s XBR-84X900 will cost $US5,000 more. For what?

It appears that Sony hasn’t learned from their unforgiving premium-price strategy, which has sadly seen the company’s TV division declare nothing but losses for eight straight years.

Sony’s XBR-84X900 uses similar passive 3D technology (including a dual play-esque feature) and is also big on interconnectivity.

At present Australian pricing hasn’t been announced for either set yet, but it will be interesting to see how this battle plays out on the local front.
