iPhone Fast Charging Will Cost Extra

Fast charging on the iPhone X, iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus will not be available right out of the box.

The new feature, which can charge Apple’s latest smartphones to 50% in 30 minutes, will instead require the purchase of additional accessories.

A USB-C to Lightning cable and one of Apple’s USB-C power adapters are needed for fast charging.

On the Apple Store, a one metre USB-C to Lightning cable retails for $35, while USB-C power adapters start at $69.

Higher wattage USB-C power adapters that are bundled with recent MacBook Pro computers can also be used.

Wireless charging was highlighted as one of the main new features when the iPhone X and iPhone 8 were announced.

An update later in the year is expected to introduce fast charging to wireless chargers like the Belkin Boost Up, which will deliver up to 7.5W of power. This is still expected to be slower than the wired fast charging option.
