iPhone 17 Pro Can’t Handle The Sun As Users Report Colour Fading
Early buyers of Apple’s new iPhone 17 Pro have reported unexpected colour fading on some models just weeks after launch.
Speculation online points to UV exposure as the likely culprit.
The issue first surfaced on Reddit, where users posted photos showing strange discolouration on the aluminium bodies of their orange and deep blue iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max units.
What began as a handful of posts has since turned into a growing thread of complaints, suggesting the problem may be more widespread than initially thought.
According to affected owners, the fading typically begins around the camera island before spreading across the entire frame, leaving only the matte glass centre panel untouched.

Several users say their once-vibrant Cosmic Orange phones now resemble Apple’s long-retired Rose Gold finish after a few hours in the sun.
Many users report that their phones began to lose colour after limited time outdoors, raising concerns that the anodised aluminium coating on the iPhone 17 Pro may not be sufficiently UV-resistant.
Some claim the fading can appear within days, particularly in warmer climates like Australia.
While Apple has yet to issue an official statement, it’s expected that the company will offer replacements for affected devices under warranty.
The new iPhone 17 Pro series, released last month, introduced refreshed colours and a lighter aluminium chassis as part of Apple’s sustainability push.
