IFA 2016: Philips Debut 55-Inch OLED
Philips have joined the OLED arena with a new 55-inch Ultra HD TV on display at this year’s IFA Conference in Berlin.
Called the 901F, it’s designed to achieve the maximum performance 4K video can offer by combining the benefits of OLED with Philips’ own Ambilight technology.
The former should allow the 901F to deliver both richer and more lively colors along with darker ‘perfect’ blacks while the latter allows those visual tones to leak out from the TV to its surroundings, enabling a more immersive and cinematic home theatre experience.
Design wise, it’s a ultraslim silver rectangle with two points legs below it. The company say it has been designed to reflect the their two major pillars of design: Visible Lightness and European Craftsmanship.
“Visible Lightness’ gives a clear indication of the cutting edge technology within the set and is exemplified by the extremely tight fit and dimensions of the OLED panel, with its super thin narrow bezel. While the slim chrome curved edge stand allows the set to perch on a table top, giving the impression that the set is floating.”
They say “the refined proportions and use of beautiful materials and finishing underpin the promise of European Craftsmanship: making the 901F a television that looks as good as it performs”
It’s also expected to feature some Smart TV functionality powered by Google’s Android TV.
