Hot New CES Gadget, Now You Can Charge A Smartphone From A Metre Away

CES often throws up some interesting gadgets, and while some make it others often crash and burn, so it will be interesting to see how a new device that lets one charge a smartphone from 1 metre away goes.

During the Xmas break the Federal Communications Commission in the USA approved a new wireless matt that lets users charge their electronics without being connected to the charger through the use of radio frequencies

The Energous Corporation’s Watt Up device has been rigorously tested by US authorities who have given it a tick of approval.

Currently wireless charging devices are on sale in Australia however any smartphone has to be in direct contact with the device that is being charged.

Stephen Rizzone, president and CEO of Energous, told the website that the approval will increase his device’s popularity.

“Older wireless charging technologies have received limited adoption over the past 15 years, and are confined to contact-based charging only. The FCC certification of Energous’ power-at-a-distance wireless charging transmitter is a major market milestone,” Rizzone said in a statement.

“Untethered, wire-free charging — such as charging a fitness band even while wearing it — is exactly what consumers have been waiting for.”
