GoPro Set For Its Biggest Camera Shake-Up In Years
GoPro is set to unveil what it describes as a “new generation” of cameras at the NAB Show in Las Vegas next month, signalling one of the biggest product overhauls in the company’s history.
The US imaging company confirmed it will showcase multiple new cameras between April 19–22, all powered by its next-generation GP3 processor.
Rather than a routine refresh, the announcement points to a broader expansion beyond GoPro’s traditional action camera category.
At the centre of the lineup is the GP3 chip, which GoPro claims delivers more than double the pixel-processing performance of its predecessor.
The new platform is also expected to enable larger sensors, significantly improved low-light capability, higher resolutions and frame rates, along with better thermal performance and longer battery life.
GoPro founder and CEO Nicholas Woodman said customer demand for “more of everything” drove the development of the new range, including improved image quality, audio and reliability in extreme conditions.
The move could mark a strategic shift for GoPro, targeting professional creators and filmmakers rather than just action sports users.
Teaser footage released by the company shows cinematic-style visuals, including shallow depth of field and controlled low-light scenes – a departure from the brand’s signature ultra-wide action shots.
The company has also confirmed it will launch multiple devices, suggesting a broader portfolio that could include vlogging or even cinema-focused cameras.
