Google’s Fitbit Edge Could Be The Charge Successor Fans Have Been Waiting For
Google could be preparing to expand its Fitbit lineup with a new fitness tracker that looks set to replace the ageing Charge series.
According to Android Headlines, the device will be called the Fitbit Edge and feature a small oval display alongside familiar health and fitness tracking tools. The tracker may already have made an unofficial appearance, with what appears to be the same device spotted in Google’s Pixel 11 promotional material in August.
The Edge would sit alongside Fitbit’s existing mix of screen-equipped and screenless trackers. The Fitbit Air takes the minimalist approach without a display, while models such as the Inspire 3 and Charge 6 include screens.
However, the Edge appears to be a more substantial upgrade. It reportedly combines features associated with the Charge lineup with a redesigned body, while adding built-in GPS and access to a handful of Google services. Google hasn’t released a new Charge model since the Charge 6 arrived in 2023, making the Edge a potential successor to the long-running fitness tracker.
One notable advantage could be compatibility. Like other Fitbit trackers, the Edge is reportedly designed to work with both Android phones and iPhones. That separates it from the Pixel Watch 5, which runs Wear OS and requires an Android device.
For iPhone owners, that could make the Edge an interesting option for accessing a Google-made wearable with a screen without switching to an Android phone or buying a smartwatch from another manufacturer.
Despite the display, the Edge doesn’t appear to be a miniature Pixel Watch. The leaked details suggest it can display notifications and run a limited selection of Google apps and features, including Google Maps, YouTube Music and Find My Phone. Media and music controls are also reportedly included.
There is no indication of a full app store, however, meaning more advanced tasks will likely continue to rely on a connected smartphone.

Fitness tracking appears to be well covered. The Edge is said to feature built-in GPS, an altimeter for measuring elevation and automatic activity recognition. Battery life is reportedly rated at up to seven days, putting it firmly in traditional fitness tracker territory rather than smartwatch territory.
Google also appears to be giving the device a significant redesign compared with the rectangular Charge 6. The Edge reportedly uses a rounded oval display with an elongated button on either side of the body. A pinch-style mechanism on the rear allows the bands to be removed and replaced.
Three colour options are expected: Obsidian, Olive and Canyon. The Olive and Canyon versions reportedly feature two-tone frames, with the orange Canyon model getting a brighter gold-coloured surround.
The Fitbit Edge could launch as soon as October, although Google has yet to confirm the device or announce an official release date.
Pricing remains unclear as well. The report estimates a price of between US$149 and US$199, based partly on previous Fitbit pricing. The Charge 6 launched at US$159.95, while the screenless Fitbit Air starts at US$99.99.
If that estimate proves accurate, the Edge would slot neatly above Fitbit’s basic trackers while remaining considerably more affordable than a full Pixel Watch.
