Google Turn Back The Clock On ChromeCast Rebrand
Google’s Cast streaming dongle, originally launched as the Google ChromeCast and later re-branded, looks like it’ll be going back to its former name with Google said to be phasing out the ‘Cast’ branding from its products and sites.
However, according to Android Police, Google has already renamed the official @GoogleCast Twitter account back to @Chromecast, and changed a lot of the text on the Google Cast website to describes Google Cast as “Chromecast built-in.”
It’s an interesting move from the company. However, it’s also one that falls very much into their habit of tinkering too much with their brand.
Back in May, the tech giant rebranded their tech “to better reflect that Google Cast technology is now supported across a wide range of devices such as Chromecast, TVs, displays and speakers.”
While this subtler approach may have earned them some support from vendors in the TV space, it’s also likely it left mainstream consumer audiences only recently having developed recognition for the ChromeCast branding confused.
