Motorola is set to see their run into third position in the Australian Smartphone challenged, with the launch of a new range of Pixel 7 and 7 Pro smartphones pitched at the affordable premium market, where Motorola has been gaining share.

Google who is also challenging Apple and Samsung claim the new Pixel smartphone models deliver improved voice and camera features also built in is new facial recognition for unlocking the device, this was removed in earlier models and well as advanced video and still camera shooting capability.

ChannelNews understands that Google is preparing its largest-ever launch order for its latest mobile phone range as it takes on Apple, Samsung and other Asian rivals in a shrinking global market.

According to Nikki Asia Google has requested more than 8 million units for its Pixel 7 range, with the big search Company telling several suppliers it roughly aims to double its smartphone sales for 2023 compared with this year.

The U.S. search engine giant officially launched the next-generation Pixel — the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro — at an event in Brooklyn, New York.

Both the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro are equipped with an upgraded Tensor G2 chip, which gives the Android device better security and improved camera functions such as auto-deblurring photos.

The big search Company who has been expanding their range of hardware is using their second generation in-house developed Tensor processor.

The Company has also introduced a new Pixel Watch. It’s the first smartwatch from the company to bear the Pixel name and undercuts the latest-generation Apple Watch.

A key contributor seen in the new watch is technology and software bought over from FitBit. Google said that their new smartwatch with an on-board app store will also have Google Wallet for mobile payments and Fitbit health sensors and workout features built in.

The new top end Pixel smartphone has a 6.7-inch display and an additional zoom camera, which is described as a better display and more memory than the 6.3-inch Pixel 7.

Also coming is a new Google Pixel Tablet.

The 2022 Pixel models are sleeker designs and feature innovations such as Night mode, Photo Unblur feature, as well as a new macro mode and Super Res Zoom on the Pixel 7 Pro.

The Pro has a 6.7-inch OLED display and includes a powerful 5x telephoto lens and new macro focus mode for closeups.

The Pixel 7 Pro also gets its Cinematic Blur for video, which utilizes Tensor’s power to add an artistic blur effect and shallow depth of field to your videos.

The new Photo Unblur, can unblur your photos much like Magic Eraser software.

Night Sight also got an upgrade and is now two times faster than before, resulting in more stable low-light shots.
At the entry level the Pixel 7 is devoid of the Pixel 7 Pro’s larger and higher-res OLED display, as well as the 5x telephoto camera, and 12GB of RAM which could be a good reason to go for the Pro model.

the Pixel 7 with its 6.3-inch 90Hz OLED has built in AI and machine learning smarts.

You also get all of the same software that the Pixel 7 Pro gets.

The Pixel line-up had only 2% of the US market in the second quarter, whereas Apple’s iPhone commanded 52%, according to Canalys data.

Questions about the long-term viability of the Pixel line have circulated for years and may intensify now that all tech companies, Google included, are looking at ways to control costs and streamline operations. Success in the smartphone business requires significant upfront and marketing investment.

“If Google does not become serious about the hardware business, I’m afraid this product will be another lost opportunity to expand its phone business in critical markets, such as North America and Europe,” IDC’s Francisco Jeronimo said ahead of the launch event.

In Australia Google will be in a head on battle with Samsung Apple and Motorola and to a lesser degree Chinese brands such as Oppo and TCL.

Among Google’s other smartphone upgrades this year is a promised 72-hour battery life on low-power mode, up from last year’s 48 hours. The higher-tier Pixel 7 Pro has three rear cameras, including a 50-megapixel wide-angle lens with the ability to take macro shots and a 48-megapixel telephoto lens with 5X optical zoom. It can record 4K video at 60 frames per second. The standard model benefits from the same macro camera but misses out on the zoom; it also has a slower 90Hz screen rather than the 120Hz display of the Pro.

The Pixel 7 starts at $999, with the Pixel 7 Pro starting at $1,299. The phone can be pre-ordered today, and will be on sale starting October 13.
