On the heels of the cheaper HD iteration of Chromecast with Google TV, the company now look to be launching a new device, so if you plan to purchase a new 4K Chromecast maybe wait until you see what Google have up their sleeve.
Chromecast with Google TV is currently available in two versions – 4K and HD. But the latest preview update to the Google Home app includes prep for a new Google TV device they’re referring to as “YTC”.
Elsewhere in the code comes confirmation it’s a “Chromecast with Google TV”, along with previous models “YTV”, which is Chromecast with Google TV, and YTB, which is Chromecast HD.
It’s been said this new iteration will come with higher specs to replace their current flagship device, but there are no specific details available as yet.
Still, it makes sense seeing as their 4K Chromecast hasn’t seen a refresh since 2020 – a lifetime in television technology.
Speculation has it a new 4K Chromecast would pack AV1 decoding, offering improved video streaming support. There are also hopes for increased storage and faster hardware.
