Google has released a pointed 30-second video advertisement targeting Apple’s delayed AI-enhanced Siri features ahead of the Pixel 10 launch on August 20, marking an escalation in the companies’ AI competition.

The YouTube teaser opens with a voiceover stating: “If you buy a new phone because of a feature that’s coming soon, but it’s been coming soon for a full year, you could change your definition of soon”, a direct reference to Apple’s postponed Siri AI improvements originally announced at WWDC 2024.

The advertisement continues by showing the Pixel 10’s outline while suggesting users “could just… change your phone,” positioning Google’s devices as an alternative to waiting for Apple’s AI promises.

The advertisement references Apple’s struggling timeline for enhanced Siri capabilities, which were initially expected to arrive in April 2025.

Apple acknowledged in May that its Siri AI features were “taking a bit longer” than anticipated, leaving iPhone users with an AI assistant that lags behind Google’s Gemini integration.

Google announced additional AI updates and features during Google I/O 2025, widening the gap between the companies’ AI implementations as Apple continues to delay its promised improvements.

The aggressive marketing approach signals Google’s confidence in the Pixel 10 series’ AI capabilities compared to upcoming iPhone models.

The teaser suggests Google believes it has maintained a significant advantage in mobile AI implementation while Apple has stalled on delivering promised enhancements.

AI functionality has become increasingly central to smartphone competition, with Google integrating its Gemini AI throughout the Android ecosystem while Apple works to catch up with its delayed intelligence features.

Google must substantiate these claims with concrete demonstrations of superior AI hardware and software during the Made by Google event on August 20.

The company faces pressure to prove that Pixel 10 devices offer compelling reasons for iPhone users to switch platforms.

Apple will likely monitor Google’s announcements closely, as the iPhone 17 series launch is expected just weeks after Google’s event.

While Apple typically avoids direct competitive responses, the company may address AI leadership claims during its own product presentation.

The timing of both events will create a direct comparison opportunity for consumers evaluating AI capabilities between the competing smartphone ecosystems.
