Denon Launches $15 Monthly Earbud Rental Service With Remote Kill Switch
Audio manufacturer Denon has launched Denon+, a monthly subscription service offering access to premium wireless earbuds for $15.25 per month, but subscribers never actually own the devices.
The service bundles Denon PerL or PerL Pro wireless earbuds with exclusive music content, member offers, and annual device upgrades.
However, the earbuds remain Denon’s property throughout the subscription period, with devices being remotely deactivated if payments cease.
Denon+ operates as a device rental service rather than a rent-to-own program.
Subscribers choose between the standard PerL or premium PerL Pro earbuds and receive exclusive perks, including member-only music content and special offers delivered via email.
The service includes annual device refresh eligibility after 12 months of on-time payments, allowing subscribers to upgrade to newer models of equal or lesser value at no additional charge.
Upgrading to more expensive devices requires increased monthly payments.
Accidental Loss Coverage is included, providing one replacement per subscription period for broken, lost, or stolen earbuds, though replacement fees apply.
Subscribers can cancel anytime without lock-in contracts by contacting Denon before the next monthly payment.

Upon cancellation, devices are remotely deactivated and must be returned within 30 days to avoid additional charges.
Missing payments resets upgrade eligibility, requiring another full 12-month period before qualifying for device refresh options.
The subscription model ensures Denon retains ownership of all hardware throughout the service period.
The Denon PerL originally retailed for $304, while the PerL Pro cost $533 when launched in 2023.
Both models feature Masimo Adaptive Acoustic Technology for personalised sound profiles using otoacoustic emissions to tailor audio to individual hearing characteristics.
The PerL includes active noise cancelling, multi-device pairing, and IPX4 water resistance.
The Pro model adds Dirac Virtuo spatial audio, adaptive noise cancelling with adjustable transparency, Qualcomm aptX Lossless support, and Bluetooth multipoint connectivity.
Both earbuds offer up to 8 hours of battery life with three additional charges from the wireless charging case, bringing total usage to approximately 32 hours.
The subscription model represents Denon’s approach to competing in the premium wireless earbud market dominated by Apple, Sony, and Bose.
Rather than reducing retail prices, Denon offers access to high-end audio technology through affordable monthly payments.
At $15.25 monthly, subscribers pay $183 annually for access to earbuds that would otherwise cost $304-533 upfront, making premium audio technology more accessible while ensuring continuous revenue for Denon through the rental model.
