Galaxy S26 Rumoured to Match iPhone’s Contactless Payment Convenience
Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy S26 series could feature enhanced NFC connectivity designed to improve contactless payments and match iPhone capabilities, according to reports from South Korean media.
ETNews reported that Samsung plans to include a dedicated NFC antenna alongside the existing NFC coil in its next flagship smartphones, expected to launch in January 2026.
The antenna would be positioned on the device’s top edge, while the NFC coil remains in its traditional rear location.
The upgrade aims to address a current limitation with Samsung devices, which require users to carefully align their phones with contactless payment terminals for Google Pay or Samsung Pay transactions to register successfully.
Current Galaxy S25 series phones rely solely on a rear-mounted NFC coil for contactless payments.
By adding a top-edge antenna, Samsung would match the payment convenience that iPhone users already experience, potentially making the switching process more attractive for Apple customers considering Android alternatives.

The enhanced NFC setup would eliminate the need for users to reposition their phones during payment transactions, addressing a common frustration point that can build dissatisfaction with mobile payment experiences.
The potential upgrade represents Samsung’s continued effort to achieve feature parity with Apple’s iPhone lineup, particularly in areas where user experience differences might influence purchase decisions.
Contactless payments have become increasingly prevalent, making seamless transaction experiences more critical for consumer satisfaction.
Recent iPhones already incorporate NFC antennas that enable faster, more reliable contactless payments, giving Apple an advantage in this daily-use scenario.
The Galaxy S26 series is expected to launch in January 2026, following the pattern established with the S25 series release earlier this year.
However, the report represents early speculation about Samsung’s development plans, with significant time remaining before any official announcement.
Samsung will likely monitor competitor launches between now and the S26 introduction, including Google’s Pixel 10 series arriving August 20 and Apple’s anticipated iPhone 17 series in September, which could influence final feature decisions for the Galaxy S26 lineup.
