Google Ditch Pixel 2 & 2XL After 18 Months

Google has officially ceased selling the Pixel 2/2XL on its web store just 18 months after launch, prompting buyers to the Pixel 3/3XL instead.

The news follows a similar strategy with the original Pixel phone, which was ditched from Google’s online store 18 months after too.

Whilst the Pixel 2/2XL is still available to purchase from several third-party retailers, Google’s strategy contrasts other manufacturers such Apple and Samsung who still sell previous generation smartphones several years after launch.

As spotted by Android Police consumers who directly visit the Pixel 2 page are now pushed to the Pixel 3 listing instead – mirrored by Google’s Australian website too.

The news follows reports Google has significantly slashed personnel numbers from its laptop and tablet teams, fuelling rumours the tech giant is re-strategising its Pixel hardware portfolio.
