Fujifilm Add Smallest Lens Yet To GFX Line

Japanese photography company Fujifilm has announced its most compact lens yet for its GFX range of mirrorless medium format cameras.

Targeted at travellers and street photographers, the GF50mmF3.5 R LM WR ($1,649) is the 10th lens for the GFX system, which includes the GFX 50S, 50R and 100.

It’s the smallest and lightest lens available for the cameras at 335g, giving a total setup weight of 1.11kg when paired with the company’s compact, rangefinder inspired GFX 50R.

The lens has additional weather seals in 10 places to make it dust and weather resistant, with Fujifilm claiming it can operate in temperatures down to -10°C.

The lens is made up of 9 elements in 6 groups with a maximum aperture of f/3.5.

The 50mm focal length is equivalent to a full-frame focal length of 40mm on the GFX’s larger sensors.

The lens is due to go on sale in Australia in September.

Fujifilm’s GFX system cameras are some of the cheapest digital medium format cameras.

Hasselblad recently announced a cheaper medium format camera to compete.
