The world’s first 4K 240Hz gaming monitor was unveiled at a showcase event this week.

AU Optronics is the company behind the feat, with the panel based on AUO’s proprietary AHVA (Advanced Hyper-Viewing Angle) technology, an advancement over the traditional In-Plane Switching panels.

Features include a brightness of 400 nits, a 1 ms gray-to-gray response time, 95 per cent coverage of the DCI-P3 color gamut reduction of reflections, and a wider viewing angle.

GizmoChina notes, however, “some colour uniformity issues were observed at specific viewing angles during the showcase”, meaning it may be a while until it goes into mass production.

Even further from mass production was a 5K 360Hz display with a non-standard 5K resolution of 5120×1440 that AUO reportedly demonstrated.

There’s no word on when the 4K 240Hz gaming monitor will hit the market – but the new benchmark has been set.
