Melbourne-based Swann Communications, a global leader in security appliances, is undergoing major executive changes following the sudden departure of senior executives — including its CEO, who also served as Chief Technology Officer, and its Global Marketing Director.

ChannelNews understands the company may also be in the process of being sold to a new international owner.

Swann was originally founded by David Swann in 1987 before being acquired by American-Chinese security technology group Infinova.

Departing the company is CEO Alex Talevski, who stepped into the top role three years ago after serving as Swann’s CTO. Before joining Swann, Talevski held senior technology roles at BlueAnt Wireless and Azure Healthcare.

It is understood Talevski will run a new division at Morse Micro, a leading Australian semiconductor company.

Also exiting is Jeremy Stewart, Swann’s long-time Global Marketing Director, who is stepping down after 21 years with the business. Stewart said he plans to take a nine-month sabbatical, using what he describes as a “massive amount of long service leave.”

“I want to spend time with my family for a while,” Stewart said. “Over the years, I’ve built up a lot of leave, and it’s time to take advantage of that before returning to the market.”

“Working at Swann was the best career move I ever made and I’m so thankful for the opportunities the business gave me. I was very lucky to work with so many great people as colleagues within the company but also suppliers, agencies, customers and more. Hopefully we can stay in touch”.

During his tenure, Stewart played a key role in expanding Swann’s brand across multiple international markets, including the USA, UK, Europe, and Asia.

Talevski said his decision to leave was driven by his passion for technology rather than corporate management.

“I took on the CEO role, but it was time for me to move on,” he said. “I love technology, and my new role allows me to focus on developing the next generation of innovation.”

Swann Communications remains a prominent global player in the DIY home and business security market, known for its range of wired and wireless cameras, smart doorbells, and surveillance systems designed and developed in Melbourne.

Among Talevski’s notable achievements was the development of the 4K Max Ranger security camera range — featuring AI voice assistance, long-range Wi-Fi, high-definition imaging, and smart alert functionality.

While Swann continues to base its product design and R&D operations in Australia, the company has a strong global footprint, with offices in the USA, Canada, UK, Hong Kong, and China, and operations in more than 40 countries.

ChannelNews understands that Infinova is currently in discussions to sell Swann to a major security-focused global entity, which could see the brand expand further into new markets with the backing of advanced new technology.
