EXCLUSIVE: Polk Appoint Westan As New Distributor, Big Retailers Pick Up Brand

In yet another round robin of brands leading sound Company Polk has appointed Melbourne Company Westan as their new distributor in Australia.

Previously distributed by Interdyn the brand replaces the loss of Q Acoustics earlier this year.

No reason has been given for the switch.

In recent weeks ChannelNews has been approached by two major brands seeking information about distributors in Australia, both brands are currently represented in Australia.

According to Sam Encel at Interdyn Polk’s non-independent channels will move to the new distribution in early January, and specialist stores and integrators will cut over to Westan on 1 February 2018.

Until 31 January 2018, it is business as usual for our independent accounts, with Interdyn fulfilling orders and providing after-sales support. From 1 February 2018, these functions will be handled by Westan.

The brand that is highly popular overseas is set to be ranged by both JB Hi Fi and Harvey Norman in the New Year.

We understand that Directed Electronics will remain the Australian distributor for Polk’s car and personal audio products.

According to Westan CEO Kamil Aghtan Polk is set to release several new products at CES.

Recently the Company introduced a new 5.1 5.1 channel soundbar that comes with two wireless surround speakers.

The new MagniFi Max SR is one of the products that will be ranged by mass retailers.

The soundbar has DTS and Dolby Digital decoding, as well as Polk’s SDA technology, which the company says helps create a more detailed soundstage.

The package also features four 2.5cm by 8cm full-range drivers, two 2cm tweeters, a 2.5cm centre channel driver and a 20cm ported woofer.

Along with three built-in Ultra HD 4K HDMI inputs, one HDMI output, an optical input and a 3.5mm port on the soundbar itself, the MagniFi Max has a Bluetooth and ethernet connection for wireless streaming. There’s also Chromecast built-in, so you can stream music from enabled apps like Tidal and Deezer (or other Google Assistant speakers like the Home or the Sony LF-S50G).

The Polk comes with its own remote, but ‘Smart Remote’ compatibility means you can use your existing IR TV remote too.

Pricing for the soundbar Australia has not been announced.
