Anker’s Eufy has unveiled a new smart video doorbell designed to give homeowners a much wider view of their front door area. It combines a 180-degree camera with artificial intelligence tracking and an unusual virtual reality-style viewing mode.

The Eufy Video Doorbell S4 uses a 3K, 9MP camera capable of capturing a 3072 x 3072-pixel square image.

The company touts its 3K ultra-high resolution, which means owners can clearly see even facial details up to 3 metres away. It can recognise human figures 5 metres away and maintains sharp visibility across an 8 metre radius.

Its 180-degree horizontal and vertical field of view can provide coverage from floor to ceiling and wall to wall and is designed to reduce the blind spots of conventional doorbell cameras. 

One of its more interesting features is a VR-inspired viewing mode. Owners can move their smartphone around to explore the panoramic view, effectively looking around the area outside their home rather than being restricted to a conventional fixed camera frame. The feature can also be used when viewing an incoming visitor through the Eufy app. When the doorbell rings, homeowners can answer like a video call and ‘step into’ the scene with the VR mode. 

AI plays plays a role in the S4’s security features. Eufy’s OmniTrack technology can identify an object as a person and then automatically keep them centred in the frame. Auto-framing provides a closer view of the subject. The system combines radar with two passive infrared sensors to improve motion detection and reduce unwanted alerts from things like rain or insects. 

The doorbell can detect people, packages and other movement, while users can create customised detection zones. A pair of spotlights is also included to improve visibility at night.

The S4’s local-storage approach could be another attraction with the doorbell including 4GB of built-in storage, meaning there is no need for a monthly subscription for basic video storage. Connecting it to Eufy’s HomeBase S380 expands the system’s capabilities, including continuous recording and additional AI recognition features. 

The S4 is designed to be hard-wired into an existing 16–24V AC doorbell circuit rather than operating as a conventional battery-powered unit. It does include a 2,600mAh backup battery to keep the doorbell operating if the power is out. 

Connectivity includes dual-band Wi-Fi 6 and the system works with Amazon Alexa, Google Home and Apple Home. Some advanced functions, including VR viewing and OmniTrack, do remain tied to Eufy’s own app.

Forming part of Eufy’s Edge 5.0 Yard Protection System, this S4 doorbell system is being positioned as a premium alternative to conventional video doorbells.

The Eufy Video Doorbell S4 is priced at US$299. It is slated for an Australian release, expected from late October, however pricing is not yet available.
