Electrolux x Whitehouse Institute Team Up to Power Sustainable Fashion’s Next Wave
Electrolux has partnered with Whitehouse Institute of Design, Australia, to integrate fabric care education into fashion curriculum, addressing the industry’s waste crisis by teaching designers to create garments built for longevity.
The collaboration embeds laundry science directly into design education, with Electrolux installing its UltimateCare 900 washing machines and dryers across Whitehouse’s studios, enabling students to test fabric durability during the design process rather than as an afterthought.
With 92 million tonnes of textile waste generated globally each year according to Global Fashion Agenda’s Pulse Report, much discarded prematurely due to poor care practices, the partnership addresses sustainability at the design stage rather than disposal.
