Dell Increases E-Sports Push As Gaming Demand Takes Off

In contrast to those shrinking overall PC sales, global demand for gaming PCs is heating up and the boom will continue over the next five years, Dell Technologies’ consumer marketing VP Raymond Wahunder has told the Taiwan-based Digitimes IT news service.
Electronic sports (e-sports) and VR (virtual reality) are main growth drivers for gaming PCs, Wahunder said, adding that gaming is becoming e-sports in a global trend. He predicted the number of e-sports fans would increase to 145 million in 2017.
Dell is already a major player in the gaming PC market segment under its Alienware and Inspiron brands.
The US giant has sponsored a number of e-sports events and is setting up 50 gaming PC retail outlets at Best Buy chain stores in the US.
