Richard Thorpe construction executive general manager of NBN Co is to depart the role, according to an internal email seen by the Australian Financial Review.
The email was sent by chief operating officer Greg Adcock, who wrote: “I regret to inform you that Richard Thorpe, NBN Co’s EGM Construction will be leaving the company.” No reason was given.
Thorpe was in the role 16 months according to his LinkedIn profile.
He previously held senior roles at BT OpenReach including Director Ethernet Products, General Manager Engineering & Innovation, and has an engineering background.
He is the third construction boss to depart since 2011.
Patrick Flannigan resigned as NBN Co head of construction in 2011, as talks with several construction firms broke down with accusations of price gouging, and was replaced by Dan Fleming who was later made redundant by NBN Co in a business “adjustment” in January 2013.
Thorpe will be replaced temporarily by Peter Ryan, GM of Implementation for Transit and Fixed Wireless networks at NBN Co.
Update: NBN Co. has confirmed to CN Richard Thorpe has left the organisation. The departure is believed to be a personal choice and the construction boss was not pushed.
