The iconic Commodore 64, which first launched in 1982, has made a return in a darker, slimmer modern form, packed with games.

Retro Games and Plaion Replai have unveiled THEC64 Mini – Black Edition, a limited-run remake of the beloved 8-bit home computer, featuring an all-black shell while keeping the classic Commodore 64 aesthetic.

The console comes preloaded with 25 “neo-retro” games, developed by modern C64 enthusiasts.

Players can also plug in a USB drive to load and play custom C64 games, with four save slots available per title.

Despite its miniature size, the Black Edition supports modern connectivity, including HDMI output for contemporary TVs and monitors, and a USB joystick for an authentic gaming feel.

For users craving the original computing experience, a standard USB keyboard can be connected. A full-sized version of THEC64 with a working keyboard is also available for purists.

While the original beige Mini launched in 2018, the Black Edition celebrates both nostalgia and the vibrant modern Commodore community.

This launch follows a broader revival of the Commodore brand, led by British retro tech personality Christian Simpson and Australian retro hardware experts, including Jake Young from Adelaide.

New hardware includes the Commodore 64 Ultimate, which combines classic emulation with modern features like USB, HDMI and Wi-Fi.
