Chromebooks Outsell Macs In US Education Market
According to IDC numbers, May sales saw Google’s Chromebooks officially overtook Macs in the American education market for the first time this year.
They say Dell, HP and Lenovo sold nearly 2 million Chromebooks across the first quarter of 2016.
In comparison, IDC estimates Apple only shipped 1.76 million units.
It’s been suggested that the cause of this uptick in demand is Google’s recent integration of the Chromebook with the Android store.
While Google has always had a clear pricing advantage over Apple in this market, they’ve previously suffered in sales as a result of the Chromebook’s software limitations.
Announced earlier this year, all 2.2 million applications on Google Play are now compatible with Chromebooks – enabling them to create music, edit photos and generate documents.
