Mere days after her non-compete clause comes to an end, former Australia Post boss Christine Holgate has taken the chief executive job at rival delivery company Toll Global Express.
“It was a big decision but you know, it’s not a hard decision,” she explained to Channel Nine.
“It’s doing something I absolutely love, which is growing a business.
“It’s a big national infrastructure business, so it’s all about e-commerce and trade and they are things I’m passionate about.”
This is an interesting move for Holgate, and acts as a warning shot to the embattled Australia Post, who have faced increased competition from the 7-Eleven-linked ParcelMate, plus Amazon’s inhouse delivery system.
Still, Holgate isn’t talking competition, yet.
“I’ve got nothing to hide. I just wish the best for everyone. I want us all to heal now and to all move forward.
“Hopefully [Australia Post] will give me a bit more of their business and help us make us a bit stronger,” she said.
Last month, Toll Group announced it had entered into an agreement for the sale of Global Express to Australian private equity fund manager Allegro Funds.
