CES 2018: Motorola Takes On Blackberry With New Keyboard Mod

Motorola has unveiled two new Moto Mods at CES 2018, including a BlackBerry-esque QWERTY keyboard, and an expensive health tracker attachment.

The ‘Livermorium Slider Keyboard Moto Mod’ follows the well known ‘Transform the Smartphone Challenge’ on crowd-funding website Indiegogo last year, which raised over US$160,000. Despite its homage to the past, there is clearly still a niche market for QWERTY keyboards on smartphones.

The Livermorium Slider Keyboard provides users with a full QWERTY keyboard, and a screen which can tilt upwards 60-degrees. The Mod is scheduled to retail for US$99 and will first launch in the States later this year. Australian pricing and availability is yet to be confirmed.

In conjunction with Lenovo, Motorola has also unveiled a US$395 health tracker attachment. The extension claims to allow users to accurately track their five key health vitals –  heart rate, respiratory rate, Pulse Ox, core body temperature, and systolic and diastolic blood pressure from your finger. The Vital Moto Mod is scheduled to land in America in April, with Australian availability and pricing yet to be officially confirmed.
