CBS All Access To Land In Oz By Year End

Following its acquisition of Network Ten in November last year, American broadcast giant CBS has announced its video streaming service ‘All Access’ will launch locally by the end of the year.

The news is set to further ignite competition in the video streaming market, and follows CBS’ recent launch of All Access in Canada.

As previously reported, CBS has voiced its desire to provide on-demand streaming content to over 8 million subscribers globally by 2020.

During CBS’ Q1 earnings call, Chief Executive, Leslie Moonves, affirmed Network Ten would provide a “gateway” for All Access to launch in Australia, with further global expansion in the works:

“By year’s end, we plan to bring All Access to Australia using our acquisition of Network TEN as a gateway to launch in that market”

“After that, we’ll add more and more markets every year, leading to tremendous upside to our overall direct-to-consumer strategy. And importantly, these international subs are incremental to our 2020 target that I just mentioned.”

Australian consumers will have to hold their breath to see which titles will land on CBS All Access.

CBS is expected to begin reigning in rights for their content, following the expiry of distribution deals with vendors such as Netflix and Australia’s SBS.
