Budget Chinese smartphone manufacturer, UMIDIGI, has expanded into the Australian market, selling a range of ‘inspired’ handsets from its official Amazon and eBay AU web stores.
Considered one of China’s biggest smartphone brands, UMIDIGI has sought to take on the likes of Alcatel, Nokia and Moto in the local affordable handset industry.
The brand is said to be ranged in over 200 countries.
According to Ausdroid, UMIDIGI will initially sell in Australia online, with its latest entry-level device the ‘A5 Pro’ to release on May 21.
Retailer response to the brand remains unclear, however, it’s likely UMIDIGI is seeking to gain local clout via online sales first.
The new UMIDIGI A5 Pro boasts a notable 92.7% screen to body ratio, 6.3-inch size, small ‘droplet’ notch, and Sony triple rear camera system.Whilst Australian pricing for the A5 Pro is yet to be confirmed, Ausdroid claims the handset will retail for under $200.
Both Amazon and eBay AU web-stores mark international delivery – it’s not clear whether the products will ship with Australian or international power adaptors.
The company’s portfolio encompasses a range of sleek handsets, with prices ranging from A$140 to just over A$500.
A glossy 15W Qi Wireless Fast Charger is also being sold for under $50.
UMIDIGI smartphones are often colloquially referred to as ‘inspired dupes’ – e.g. handsets resembling the colour of Huawei’s famous P20 franchise, and others with an iPhone-esque build.
