BMW Selling Cars With No Android Auto Or Apple CarPlay

BMW who are now selling cars stripped of features that rely on processors has been forced to stop installing Android Auto and Apple CarPlay after it was revealed that they are buying processors that are not compatible with the Google and Apple software.

The latest BMW’s will also be devoid of a Wi Fi capability.

“The chips built into these cars in the first four months of this year need updated software in order to be fully functional and offer Apple CarPlay/Android Auto and Wi-Fi capability,” BMW said in an emailed statement to Automotive News Europe.

Insiders have told ChannelNews that BMW is planning to have the new software available by June or July this year with Australians reporting that vehicles are arriving without an Android Auto or Apple Car Play installed.

We understand that BMW is planning to fix the problem with an over-the-air (OTA) update to make the functionality available “by the end of June at the latest.”

BMW didn’t specify which car models are affected or how many but says vehicles with “6P1” in their production code won’t come with Android Auto or Apple CarPlay.

Consumers who have ordered a new BMW in the US, UK, Italy, Spain, and France have reported receiving their new vehicles without either functionality.

Other consumers are unable to get in car wireless charging.
