Forget Tower Worries: Vic Town Seeks NBN Hurry-up After Fire
Warrnambool in fact is already one of 14 south-west Victorian areas set for connection by 2014 – but three other councils in the area are on hold after they objected to NBN Co plans to erect 40m wireless towers (CDN, June 14).

Telstra expects it will take months to fully repair the exchange at a cost of $15 million. The fire invoked the second largest disconnection of communications in recent years, surpassing Queensland floods but behind Cyclone Yasi, after which more than 130,000 services were disconnected.

Warrnambool mayor Michael Neoh said he would lobby Comms and Broadband Minister Stephen Conroy for an inquiry into the lack of redundancy in communications, asking “how did it happen, why there was no plan B, and what they would put in place?”.
