Australia Post In Amazon Talks
Australia Post is working with the US online retail giant Amazon to solidify a partnership as part of the US group’s heralded entry to Australia – and the postal operator is looking to cash in on what’s expected to be increased demand for express delivery services.
Last month Amazon confirmed it was searching for a site for its first fulfillment centre in Australia ahead of the launch of its flagship retail services locally – and Australia Post chief operating officer Bob Black said the postal group hoped to seal a deal with Amazon by July.
“We are talking to them now; we will continue to talk to them,” Black said. “Amazon is a significant inbound international customer for us already.”
Amazon’s Prime Video is also believed to be planning to deliver live video channels in Australia.
Initial products offered by Amazon are expected to be household and other consumer goods, as well as streaming services and groceries, in a market worth $4 billion.
