Security camera company Arlo will no longer apply an end-of-life policy to a number of its older products, with the CEO admitting it was the wrong call.

The end-of-life policy would have seen the company’s seven-day free cloud storage removed for many Arlo cameras, despite this being one of the major selling points of these devices.

This was due to come into effect at the start of 2023, and resulted in ire from many customers.

Arlo CEO Matthew McRae posted a thread on Twitter reversing the policy.

“Users who currently have 7-day storage service will continue to receive that service uninterrupted. Any future migrations will be handled in a seamless manner,” he wrote.

“I know this was the source of nearly all concern & we are happy to announce that users will not be impacted.”

In addition, Arlo will be pushing out EOL dates until 2025, and will continue to provide security updates on products for one year after the EOL date.
