Apple’s Next Smart Home Display Could Feature a Screen That Follows You
Apple is reportedly working on a premium version of its new HomeView smart home display, featuring a larger screen and a motorised arm that can rotate 360 degrees to follow users around the room.
According to reports, HomeView is expected to feature a nine-inch display, up from the seven-inches of the recently announced device. The upgraded model could arrive in 2027 or 2028, although Apple has yet to officially confirm the product or its release date.
The standout feature of the new model would be its proposed robotic arm, which would allow the display to swivel a full 360 degrees.
Using voice recognition, the device would reportedly identify who is speaking and automatically turn towards them. This could make the display more practical in shared spaces such as kitchens and living rooms, where people regularly move around while asking questions, checking information or managing household tasks.
Rather than requiring users to stand directly in front of a fixed screen, the rotating design could offer a more flexible way to interact with Apple’s smart home technology.
The larger display would also provide additional screen space for information, smart home controls, video calls and other features. However, Apple has not confirmed the final hardware specifications or which features will be included.

The device is reportedly being developed under the internal codename J595. Suggestions for possible product names include HomeView Max, HomeView Ultra or HomeView 360, though these remain speculative.
The proposed model would sit above the standard HomeView rather than replace it. It’s expected it would give Apple a premium for customers seeking a more advanced home hub.
Apple introduced HomeView in October 2026 as its first dedicated smart display. It features a touchscreen, speaker, Siri AI and smart home controls in a single device. The current model pairs with a compatible Apple device to recognise up to six people and personalise content, including messages, calendars and reminders.
In Australia, the standard HomeView is $449 and is due to be available from 13 November. Priced equally, consumers can opt for the standard version, which would need to be placed somewhere – like a kitchen countertop or bedside table – or choose a wall-mounted version.
Important details of the speculated new premium model of the device remain unknown, including price, final design and other features of its rotating mechanism, beyond automatically facing the user.
The reported launch window also means Australian consumers should not expect the upgraded device in the immediate future. And for now, the proposed HomeView upgrade remains unconfirmed.Â
