Apple Unveils M5 Chip With Four Times Faster AI Performance Than M4
Apple has unveiled the M5 chip in its new 14-inch MacBook Pro, delivering up to 3.5 times faster AI performance compared to the M4 and up to six times faster than the M1 processor.
The M5 features a next-generation 10-core GPU with a Neural Accelerator embedded in each core, providing up to 1.6 times faster graphics performance than M4.
The chip includes a faster CPU with the world’s fastest CPU core, delivering up to 20% faster multithreaded performance for workloads like code compiling.
A faster 16-core Neural Engine accelerates on-device AI tasks and enhances generative models powering Apple Intelligence.
The chip offers over 150GB/s of unified memory bandwidth for working with large AI models on-device or manipulating massive 3D scenes.
Storage performance has doubled compared to the previous generation, with configurations up to 4TB now available, enabling faster loading of local large language models.
Compared to the M4-powered 14-inch MacBook Pro:
- Up to 1.8x faster AI video enhancement in Topaz Video
- Up to 1.7x faster 3D rendering in Blender
- Up to 1.6x higher frame rates in games
- Up to 1.2x faster code compilation in Xcode
Intel-based system upgraders gain up to 86 times faster AI performance, up to 30 times faster GPU performance with ray tracing, and up to 5.5 times faster CPU performance.
The 14-inch MacBook Pro delivers up to 24 hours of battery life, 14 additional hours for Intel upgraders and four more hours for M1 users.

Fast charging supports 50% charge in 30 minutes using a 96W or higher USB-C power adapter.
The device features a 14-inch Liquid Retina XDR display with optional nano-texture finish, 1,600 nits peak HDR brightness, and 1,000 nits for SDR content.
The 12MP Center Stage camera, studio-quality microphones, and six-speaker sound system with Spatial Audio support complete the package.
The MacBook Pro ships with macOS Tahoe featuring Liquid Glass design, updated Control Center, transparent menu bar, and enhanced Spotlight search.
Apple Intelligence expands with Live Translation in Messages, FaceTime, and Phone app supporting text and audio translation across languages.
Continuity features enable the new Phone app for accessing Recents, Contacts, and Voicemail from Mac, while iPhone Live Activities keep users updated on real-time events.
The 14-inch MacBook Pro contains 45% recycled content by weight, including 100% recycled aluminium in the enclosure, 100% recycled rare earth elements in magnets, and 100% recycled cobalt in the battery.
Manufacturing uses 55% renewable electricity, and packaging is 100% fibre-based.
The 14-inch MacBook Pro with M5 starts at $2,499 in space black and silver finishes.
Pre-orders are available now through apple.com/au/store and the Apple Store app, with availability beginning Wednesday, October 22.
“M5 marks the next big leap in AI for the Mac and delivers a huge boost in graphics performance, accelerating demanding workflows for everyone from students to creatives, developers to business professionals,” said John Ternus, Apple’s senior vice president of Hardware Engineering.
Apple Intelligence is available in beta supporting English, French, German, Italian, Portuguese (Brazil), Spanish, Chinese (simplified), Japanese, and Korean, with feature and language availability varying by region.
