Apple Launches M5 MacBook Air as MacBook Pro and Studio Displays Get Refresh
Apple has unveiled its latest Mac lineup, confirming a wave of updates that have been heavily rumoured in recent weeks, including a new MacBook Air powered by the M5 chip, refreshed MacBook Pro models and two new Studio Displays.
At its ‘Apple Experience’ event, the company introduced the MacBook Air with M5, alongside MacBook Pro models featuring all-new M5 Pro and M5 Max chips, plus a redesigned Studio Display and an all-new Studio Display XDR.
The headline announcement is the MacBook Air with M5, bringing a 10-core CPU and up to a 10-core GPU with a Neural Accelerator in each core.
Apple claims up to 4x faster AI performance compared to the M4 model and up to 9.5x faster performance than the M1 version, positioning the device as a stronger platform for on-device AI and Apple Intelligence features in macOS Tahoe.

The new Air now starts with 512GB of storage – double the previous base configuration – and supports up to 4TB for the first time. It also introduces Apple’s new N1 wireless chip with Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6, and features two Thunderbolt 4 ports supporting up to two external displays.
Battery life remains rated at up to 18 hours. The laptop retains its thin, fanless aluminium design in 13-inch and 15-inch sizes, with 13.6-inch and 15.3-inch Liquid Retina displays offering 500 nits of brightness and support for one billion colours, alongside a 12MP Center Stage camera for improved video calls.
Apple says the new Air is made with 55% recycled content, including 100% recycled aluminium in the enclosure.

Australian pricing starts at A$1,799 (A$1,639 for education), with pre-orders open from 5 March and availability from 11 March.
Apple also refreshed its Studio Display lineup, introducing a redesigned Studio Display and a new Studio Display XDR.
At the same event, Apple also launched a refreshed iPad Air with an M4 chip and an iPhone 17e featuring the new A19 processor.
