Apple Camera AirPods Tipped For 2027 AI Wearables Push
Apple is reportedly preparing to launch a new version of AirPods with built-in cameras in late 2027, as the company looks to strengthen its position in artificial intelligence-powered devices.
The camera-equipped earbuds are expected to arrive around the same time as a next-generation foldable iPhone and a special anniversary iPhone marking 20 years since the original model launched. The products are being positioned as part of one of Apple’s largest hardware release cycles.
The AirPods are designed to support Apple’s Visual Intelligence features, rather than take photos or record video. Their cameras would act as sensors, giving Siri more awareness of a user’s surroundings. This could allow wearers to ask questions about nearby objects, ingredients, directions or other real-world situations.
The project, reportedly code-named B798, had initially been expected in 2026, but development is said to have been pushed back as Apple continues refining its AI software and visual recognition models.
The earbuds are expected to look similar to current AirPods Pro models, with cameras built into the stems. External indicator lights may also be included to show when data is being processed through the cloud.

Apple is also working on other AI-focused devices, including smart glasses that could arrive as early as late next year. Unlike the camera-equipped AirPods, the glasses are expected to include more advanced cameras capable of capturing photos and video.
The company’s foldable iPhone strategy is also expected to expand, with Apple reportedly planning annual updates after its first model arrives. A second-generation foldable device is already in development.
Apple is also preparing a major anniversary iPhone for late 2027. The device is expected to feature a near edge-to-edge display and curved glass wrapping around the sides. It will reportedly run on a next-generation 2-nanometre A21 chip, alongside the second-generation foldable iPhone.
The standard iPhone release schedule may also shift, with Apple expected to delay some non-Pro models while continuing to update its premium iPhone range each year.
Pricing has not been confirmed for the camera-equipped AirPods, foldable iPhone or anniversary iPhone. If Australian pricing is announced, it should be listed in the format A$.
The timing of Apple’s plans may still change, but the reported product pipeline suggests the company is preparing a major push into AI wearables, foldable devices and redesigned iPhones over the next two years.
