Airpods’ Wireless Charging Case May Arrive In December
At Tuesday’s launch event, Apple revealed its wireless headphones, Airpods, would be capable of wireless charging within a to-be-released case, and now some sources reveal it could be released as early as December this year.
Reports state the refreshed case will feature Qi wireless charging, plus a price tag of US$69.
At that price, the case will cost about the same as a replacement for the current case, should the consumer be out of warranty. Outside of that, there’s still much to be known about exactly how Apple plans to make the switch.
The company could potentially add the case to its product offering, selling it alongside the original Apple Airpods at the current price, or with an appropriate markup.
Word is, Apple is also developing its own dock (said to be the ‘AirPower’) which would charge numerous devices at the same time, including the iPhone X, iPhone 8 and Apple Watch Series 3.
Regardless, when the Californian-based company premiered the wireless AirPods last year, it’s marketing was largely synonymous with its decision to remove the headphone jack from new phone models, stating “the future is wireless”.
