Amazon Echo Spot Lands In Australia

Set to further ignite competition in the smart speaker market, Amazon has announced its Echo Spot is now available to buy in Australia for $199.

From today, Aussies can purchase the Echo Spot online, or from retailers such as JB Hi-Fi, Officeworks and Myer.

Operating similarly to the Echo and Echo Dot, Amazon’s Echo Spot has enhanced capabilities via a built-in display screen and camera.

The Echo Spot can play ‘video flash [news] briefings’ (e.g. from Fox Spots, ABC News), facilitate voice/video calls, play audio books, stream music and more.

Powered by Amazon’s smart voice assistant, Alexa, the Echo Spot can control compatible smart home devices (e.g. smart light bulbs, smart TVs).

With Bluetooth integration, the device can also facilitate multi-room playback through multiple Echo speakers.

Featuring “thousands of skills”, Amazon claims Alexa is “always getting smarter”, with several new features continually added.

Using their voice, users ask their Echo Spot to book an Uber, make a restaurant booking on Dimmi and more.

Aussies can now also interact with Alexa to check on Fitbit progress (e.g. track sleep, obtain the number of burned calories) without needing to check the Fitbit app, or their tracker.
