Amazon has started layoffs in its video games divisions, making cuts at Prime Gaming, Game Growth, and its in-house San Diego gaming studio.
Around 100 employees are expected to be impacted – a slither of the 9,000 jobs that will be lost in this latest round of cutbacks. Amazon has announced 27,000 redundancies since November, 2022.
“Our resources will be aligned to support our focus on content,” Games Vice President Christoph Hartmann wrote in a memo to employees Tuesday.
“Going forward, we will continue to invest in our internal development efforts, and our teams will continue to grow as our projects progress.”
Amazon’s “internal development efforts” have only resulted in one release, the role-playing game New World, which was launched in September, 2021.
