Quickflix Founder Moves Into AirB+B
Airbnb has appointed Sam McDonagh as Country Manager for Australia and New Zealand, it confirmed today.
The Perth native co-founded Quickflix in 2002 but left the online streaming company in 2004. He has spent over 20 years in senior management at the likes of eBay and iiNet.
According to his Linkedin profile, McDonagh has been in the role since June and his most recent role was an Advisor at Deeperwater Ventures.
His first initiatives will be to increase awareness of Airbnb locally and support the team to ensure Airbnb, the global rent-a-bed service is providing ‘unique travel experiences’. The San Francisco-based accomodation site was founded in August 2008 and has listings in 190 countries.
Airbnb is experiencing rapid growth – the number of Australian listings has doubled in the last year.
“Australia and New Zealand are incredibly important markets for Airbnb both in terms of domestic and international travel,” said Varsha Rao, Head of Global Operations at Airbnb.
“Sam has a deep passion for travel and a great track record growing companies that are focused on strong customer communities, which will make him a great asset to Airbnb.”

He will be based in Sydney.
