Acer has expanded its Predator gaming line-up with the new Predator Atlas 8, an 8-inch Windows 11 gaming handheld powered by Intel’s latest Arc G-Series processors.

The device is set to launch in Australia from October, with local pricing and final configurations yet to be confirmed.

The launch will see Acer move deeper into a handheld PC gaming market already led by Valve’s Steam Deck and rival Windows-based devices from ASUS and Lenovo.

Acer claims the Predator Atlas 8 is designed to deliver PC-class gaming performance in a portable form factor, with configurations available up to an Intel Arc G3 Extreme processor and Intel Arc B390 graphics.

The handheld supports ray tracing and Intel XeSS 3 AI-powered upscaling, aimed at improving frame rates and visual quality during demanding gameplay. It also features up to an 80Wh battery, with Intel Endurance Gaming technology designed to balance performance and power draw for longer mobile sessions.

Cooling is handled by Acer’s Predator AeroBlade system, which includes a dual-fan setup and what Acer says is the first metal fan used in a handheld gaming device.

The 89-blade metal fan is claimed to increase airflow by up to 10%, supported by Vortex Flow internal airflow tuning.

The Predator Atlas 8 features an 8-inch WUXGA 1920 x 1200 touchscreen with a 120Hz refresh rate, 500 nits brightness, Variable Refresh Rate support and Gorilla Glass Victus protection.

Other features include DTS Ultra audio, dual microphones with Acer PurifiedVoice noise reduction, two Thunderbolt 4 ports, UHS-II microSD support, Intel Killer Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4.

The unit also includes full-size analogue sticks, Hall-effect analogue triggers, adjustable trigger switches, macro buttons and a dedicated PredatorSense button for performance and system controls.

Acer said the device will ship with access to Xbox Game Pass, giving users access to a broad PC gaming library out of the box.
