It says shipments for tablets and 2-in-1 devices totalled 76.1 million units in the fourth quarter of 2014, down 3.2pc on shipments in the same quarter of 2013.

IDC estimated market leader Apple shipped 21.4 million tablets, giving it a 28.1pc share of the market by volume. Despite Samsung’s woes, it managed to hold on to the second place with 11 million units shipped.
Lenovo (4.8pc), Asus (4pc), and Amazon (2.3pc) rounded out the top five.
