Judge Colin Birss said the patents are “essential” to 4G telecommunications networks.
Unwired Planet has just 16 employees and its only real assets are more than 2000 patents, most of which were acquired from Ericsson in 2013, giving it the reputation of being a “patent troll”.
Samsung said it is confident it has not infringed Unwired Planet’s patents and will “continue to take all necessary measures to prove that our products are built on our decades of research and development.”
