Vodafone To Log Web Visits
Matthew Lobb, Voda’s GM of industry strategy and public policy, revealed the project at a Senate inquiry into the possible revision of the Telecommunications (Interception and Access) Act.
Lobb said that Vodafone’s understanding of what the Government is proposing on metadata retention is that carriers will store IP identifiers of customers, “so when a law enforcement person asks who accessed that Web site, we will be able to advise the name and address of that customer.”
Telstra says such a data retention scheme could be difficult and expensive, according to the telco’s chief risk officer. Telstra said it has no plans to follow Vodafone.
