Apple Expands Double Irish

Apple Expands Double IrishThe anouncement came as Apple CEO Tim Cook was awarded
a gold medal at Dublin’s Trinity College.

The new Irish hires will work on manufacturing, customer care, finance and
global supply chain management and are expected to be filled by mid-2017. Apple
has an iMac assembly line at its Cork facilities, which is currently the only
Apple-owned factory in the world. But it is Apple’s tax deals with the Irish
Government – sometimes known as the Double Irish, and sometimes the Double-Dutch/Irish
Sandwich, when they also involve double-dealing with Ireland and the
Netherlands – that have put the company under the scrutiny of authorities
worldwide, including Australia.

At Trinity College Tim Cook was recognised by the Philosophical Society, which
awarded him its Gold Medal of Honorary Patronage – see picture, page 1.
