Is Nokia About To Unveil A Virtual Reality Product?
The virtual reality market is gathering steam, with the likes of Samsung, Facebook-owned Oculus VR, Sony, Microsoft and HTC all involved, with Re/code reporting Nokia is set to join the rush, with the product coming from Nokia Technologies.
Nokia Technologies, which Nokia describes as focusing “on advanced R&D for licensing and new product businesses”, last year introduced the Nokia N1 Android tablet, marking Nokia’s return to mobile devices following the sale of its handset division to Microsoft.
While Nokia has given little away about its virtual reality plans, Re/code has reported that at a shareholder meeting Nokia CEO Rajeev Suri had talked about “immersive imaging” as being among the areas that Nokia was pursuing.
Nokia, which has agreed with Microsoft to not re-enter the handset market until the 2016 fourth quarter, recently revealed that should it make a return to the market, it would do so through a brand-licensing model.
