NSW Coppers Toting Phablets

The phones have been given to some operational police in local area commands as well as specialist units including highway patrols, transport patrols, the gang squad and domestic violence teams.

They will be able to use them to access the force’s COPS database, as well as perform checks on vehicles and “persons of interest”.

According to Police Commissioner Andrew Scipione: “The device will save officers time by streamlining their daily duties as it eliminates the need for officers to return to their vehicle to access information.”

However the move comes two years after Queensland Police introduced iPhones and iPads. Around 2000 have since been deployed on Queensland streets.
