Samsung Set To Announce Radical Change In Direction With New Galaxy S7

The Korean Company who is battling it out with the Apple iPhone which also features Samsung components is set to deliver a premium and sub premium versions of the S7 the key difference being components according to Korean sources.

A key component that will be changed in the new smartphone is the application processor (AP) which is the heart of a Samsung Galaxy smartphone.

Engineers have designed a new architecture so that Samsung can load a one-chip version that combines a modem and AP into a previous version while loading a modem and AP separately into a sub-premium version.

Carriers have been told that with the Galaxy S7, Samsung Electronics will divide premium models into ‘Premium’ and ‘Sub-Premium’, which means that it will break down current ‘Premium-Mid-Range-Low-End’ category into ‘Premium-Sub-Premium-Mid-Range-Low-End’.

The aim is to establish a premium brand image that is one step higher than its competitors by strengthening its premium lineup’s.

Even in mid-range AP markets, Samsung believes it can keep competitors such as Qualcomm, Mediatek, HiSilicon and others in check with its sub-premium models by delivering better performance.

It also allows Samsung to market their own AP ‘Exynos’ processors as the best smartphone processors ahead of Qualcomm.

Instead of ARM core, Samsung plans to use their own core ‘Exynos M1’ in its premium products.

AP manufacturers such as Apple, Qualcomm, Mediatek and others use their own cores to optimise performance of their own chips so that they can differentiate their chips by reducing power consumption and increasing performance more than standard designs that are provided by ARM.

Samsung’s new core ‘Exynos M1’ project is known as ‘Mongoose’ among partners.
